Canvas Micarta or the most commonly called plastic is one of the most used materials for making fountain pens. Canvas Micarta is a synthetic material, which is similar to normal Micarta. It is composed of phenol resin filled with shreds of canvas. It is formed into blocks due to pressure and heat. It is greenish brown in color.

This material is used for a wide range of purposes. It is applied to the grip of guns, for the handles of knives, Fountain pens and so many other things. It has lots of advantages which make it unique to be used in so many things:

• It is light, durable and skid resistant , as well as being water and impact resistant .
  
• It is interesting to see when it is lathed, stripes appear in this material like wood trunk, and at the finishing stage of the barrel, the texture enhances the anti- skid quality.
  
• Canvas Micarta is strong against acids; it is durable , long lasting, beautiful and easy to process.

The introduction of plastic pens is significant in the history of fountain pens. Ebonite, which was ruling the market for a long time, was replaced by the introduction of plastic pens in 1924. Waterman introduced plastic pens in 1929.

Waterman got into plastic pens five years after their introduction to the market. The first plastic model from Waterman was the Patrician. It was good and it was followed by many other excellent pens. The Ink-Vue, #7, and Hundred Year Pens are all great pens that are well made and generally of high quality.
